Dr. Tracy Land became involved with the local Humane Society in 1976, where she served ten years on the Board of Directors, and was a “foster mom” for over 300 homeless animals. She opened Pet Vet in 1987 after receiving her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Georgia. Although it wasn’t incorporated until 2000, Dr. Land began Project Spay/Neuter in 1996 to provide subsidized and low cost spays and neuters. In 1997, she and her staff received special training in pediatric sterilization. Since that time, Dr. Land has perfected these procedures to provide the lowest possible cost, while assuring the utmost in safety and fastest recovery time possible for the patient. After years of working in cramped conditions, Dr. Land decided to take the plunge and go into debt in order to construct a larger more modern clinic. In October of 2002, Pet Vet and Project Spay/Neuter moved into a brand new 3000 square foot facility just off HWY 400 on Martin Road. Although the mortgage is much higher here, Dr. Land has refused to raise the prices on spays and neuters. Since starting Project Spay/Neuter in 1996, Dr. Land has logged every spay and neuter she has performed. On November 15th, 2007 she performed her 50,000th sterilization!
